What Does 2951 Mean on a Worcester Bosch Boiler?
Fault 2951 indicates the boiler has detected either insufficient water pressure or a disruption to water flow through the system. Worcester Bosch boilers need steady pressure — typically between 1.0 and 1.5 bar — to operate safely and efficiently. Drop below that threshold, and the boiler flags 2951 and shuts down rather than running in a compromised state.
It appears most commonly on the Greenstar 4000 and 2000 ranges, and is sometimes triggered after a power cut, a recent system drain, or during cold weather when a frozen condensate pipe disrupts normal operation.
What Causes the 2951 Fault on a Worcester Bosch?
Is Low System Pressure Causing 2951?
By far the most common cause — and the first thing to check. Find the pressure gauge on the boiler’s front panel or display. If it’s reading below 1.0 bar, the system needs topping up.
Use the filling loop — on newer Worcester Bosch models this is either a keyed link, a keyless lever, or an external braided hose beneath the boiler — to slowly add water until the gauge returns to the 1.0–1.5 bar range. Close the filling link fully once done, then reset the boiler once. In many cases, that’s all it takes.

Could a Leak in the Heating System Be Behind 2951?
If pressure keeps dropping back below 1.0 bar within days of topping up — or you find yourself topping up repeatedly over weeks — there’s almost certainly a small leak somewhere in the system. Common locations are radiator valves, pipe joints, towel rail connections, or the pressure relief valve itself.
Slow leaks don’t always announce themselves with a puddle. Check around the base of radiators, under the boiler, and along visible pipework for any signs of corrosion, damp, or white limescale deposits where water has been evaporating. Is Air in the System Causing the 2951 Code?
After a system drain — for maintenance, repairs, or a boiler installation — air pockets can become trapped in radiators and pipework. Air disrupts water circulation and can cause pressure readings to behave erratically, triggering 2951 even when the system has been properly refilled.
Bleeding radiators, starting from the ground floor and working upward, releases trapped air and usually resolves this. If the boiler itself has an air pocket in the pump or primary circuit, an engineer will need to vent it properly. This is a common call-out after new boiler installations and post-service drain-downs, and it’s not a fault with the boiler itself.
Could Sludge or Blockages Be Behind 2951?
Over time in older Edinburgh heating systems, iron oxide sludge, limescale, and general debris accumulate in pipes and the heat exchanger, restricting water flow enough to disrupt circulation. Could a Faulty Flow Sensor Cause 2951?
Less commonly, the flow sensor itself is the problem. The sensor monitors water movement through the boiler, and if it fails or gives inaccurate readings, the boiler can shut down with 2951 even when actual pressure and flow are perfectly normal. An engineer will run diagnostics to establish whether the sensor is misfiring — if pressure is consistently fine and 2951 keeps returning, this is the logical next step.
How Do You Fix 2951 on a Worcester Bosch Yourself?
Check the pressure gauge first. If it’s below 1.0 bar, top up slowly using the filling loop until it reads 1.0–1.5 bar, then close the filling link and reset the boiler once. If the boiler fires and holds pressure normally, you’re done and nothing else is required.
If pressure was already fine when 2951 appeared, try bleeding the radiators — starting downstairs — to release any trapped air, then check pressure again after bleeding (it may drop slightly) and top back up if needed before resetting.
If neither of those clears it, or if the fault returns quickly after reset, it’s time for an engineer.
